Social and Emotional Learning is an important component of any learning environment; and it is inherent in a Learner-Active, Technology-Infused Classroom (LATIC). Take a look at the five competencies of SEL:
In LATIC:
- Students self-assess not only academics, but executive function skills, to build greater self-awareness.
- They use a Great Student Rubric to self-assess and set goals for non-academic skills and behaviors.
- They schedule their own time, decide with whom they will work, and decide where they will work.
- They work as part of a "home group" of 3-4 students across the course of an Authentic Learning Unit (typically 3-5 weeks) and assess how well they work together using a Table Journal.
- All of the five components are evident in many of the structures of LATIC
