English Language Learners struggle to keep up academically in a classroom that is conducted in a student's non-native language and in which a significant amount of instruction is through the teacher to the class or small group.
In LATIC, students are engaged in a social learning environment that accelerates literacy development. They work in teams, in pairs, and individually, but always with peers nearby to help. LATIC offers an immersion experience with plenty of opportunities to learn. When it comes to learning activities, teachers can create specific direction sheets with images and screencasts that help bridge the language barrier.
Our experience has been that ELLs speak English more quickly in LATIC than in conventional learning environments. Explore more on the LATIC page to get a sense of how ELLs would thrive in this environment.
