The Learner-Active, Technology-Infused Classroom is the perfect venue for co-teaching as it maximizes the use of two teachers in the classroom. IDE Corp. works with co-teaching pairs to design co-teaching environments to meet the needs of all learners in one classroom, including addressing the three tiers of instruction defined in the Response to Intervention framework.

As you explore LATIC, consider how easily it would be for two teachers to play meaningful roles in a vibrant learning environment.
A key leadership shift in designing Learner-Active, Technology-Infused Classrooms is an intentional focus on ensuring teachers are moving from silos to teams. Years ago, three fifth grade teachers in a LATIC school shared a group of students with each teaching their homeroom students language arts and then focusing on one other subject to teach to all of the classes, in a modified departmentalized schedule. As they perfected their LATIC implementation, they realized it would be better to have all of the students working together in one "big room," with the three teachers and the special education teacher who was moving from one classroom to another. Two of the classrooms were accessible to one another through an accordion door, but the other was cut off by a cinder block wall. They wrote a proposal to the superintendent to request having the wall taken down, and their superintendent did just that, supporting teams over silos in the schools. The teachers worked tirelessly all summer to design an amazing LATIC environment. At the end of the year, the superintendent met with the teachers to shower them with praise for what they accomplished. He asked what they needed to support their efforts. Their response was, "Give us all of the special education students; we're tired of hearing that LATIC doesn't work for special education students; ours are thriving!" They could have asked for furniture, computers, resources, time ... but they were so excited about how the LATIC framework helps all students thrive that that was their request.
